Daily use of the Blackberry 9700 as tethered modem for Macbook pro

  1. click the apple icon at the top left of screen (on menu bar)
  2. click ‘system preferences’ > click ‘network’
  3. select ‘bluetooth DUN’ > click the ‘connect’ button


(you may use ‘disconnect’ on this same screen to end the mac/blackberry connection or just briefly uncheck the ‘bluetooth’ option in the ‘manage connections’ on the phone)

Initial Configuration of tethered Blackberry on Macbook pro

(should only be done once)
(Blackberry 9700 on Bell Network and MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard)

  1. Set up phone to listen for Bluetooth connections ( Manage Connections > Set up BlueTooth > Listen )
  2. On Mac: Click apple icon > Click ‘system preferences’ > click Bluetooth > Add new Device > Select Blackberry 9700 and continue
  3. Accept connections on Blueberry as necessary (check off ‘always accept connections from this device’ if that is an option — as desired)
  4. Follow prompts on Mac/Blackberry until Mac gets to the configuration screen and set these options:
    • Sierra Wireless as the vendor/carrier
    • GSM/3G
    • CID = 1
    • APN = inet.bell.ca
    • username and password as 'guest'
    Then click continue until finished the wizard and close the settings window.
  5. Apple icon > System Preferences > Network > Bluetooth DUN > enter the phone number as *99# then click Apply.  Connect at will.
